Time for Ty’s U15 German National Championship baseball tournament in Füssen, Germany. This little town is in southern, Germany, in the state of Bavaria. It is in the Alps, and is home to the famous Neuschwanstein castle. This castle was the inspiration for the Disney castle. It was built by King Ludwig II, also known as the Mad King. Call him crazy, but the guy had an eye for building a gorgeous castle!
We stayed at Hotel Am Hopfensee, which just a few kilometers outside of Füssen. The view was pretty amazing, even on a cloudy day.Rain, rain, go away! We have a lot of baseball to play!Ty’s cheering sectionThe conditions were not ideal, but Ty stepped up to the mound and pitched great!I bought a pop up tent on Amazon. On Day 1 the plastic ripped apart from the zipper. I miss my US sports tent!We had a break between games so we drove to the castle. We didn’t have enough time to go all the way up to it.We walked to another castle and took in the great views.Seriously. This rain. For game 2 we invaded the scorer’s tent. Team dinner! We woke up to clear skies and a gorgeous viewBaseball is not (yet) very popular in Germany. The National Championship games were played on a soccer field…. I miss the Bettplex!Lily….Because there was so much rain on Day 1, the tournament was cut short. The good news was that meant Ty could come with us to the castle! We took a carriage ride to the top.
With all of the rain cancellations I am not entirely sure where the Redwings ended up. They won 1 game and lost 2. Not a great baseball weekend, but I am so thankful that Ty had family there to support him!
