Teeth.
The mystery of the low grade fever and cranky baby is solved. Those top two teeth are making a comeback appearance. Jay and I haven’t gotten much sleep the past couple of nights. Lily has not been a happy girl. Nothing worse than a screaming baby every hour of the night, and seemingly nothing we try makes her happy. She has been fairly normal during the day. I wonder what it is about the nighttime that causes her fits.
Chores.
Sunday morning came with a 6:00 AM wake up call by Mr. Good Morning. So, we were up and at ’em. Jay cooked our usual Sunday morning brekky, then we did a few household chores. Once the work was done, we loaded up the boat to go to Couran Cove for lunch with the Torrey’s.
Best boat ride!
We picked up the Torrey’s (Jay has pretty much mastered the boat parking skill) and headed out towards Couran Cove. We had an extra passenger because Mindy’s mom was visiting. G-G, as they call her, is 76 years young. This was her second trip to Australia. She was quite a trooper with our adventures today.
I think the Torrey’s had the same reaction to Couran Cove as we did last weekend. Amazing. They have 3 kids, the youngest is a couple years older than Ty. They all play really well together. The kids played in the pool while we chatted.
Mindy ran into someone she knew, and the lady had some hookups to get us a tram ride to the ocean side of the island. It was about 3 km to the other side of the island – definitely wouldn’t have wanted to walk it. I didn’t have my phone with me so you will have to wait until we get pictures from the Torrey’s, but the beach was unbelievable. There was definitely nobody around for miles. There was a deck walkway that took us most of the way out onto the sand, and the end of the walkway was literally consumed by sand. There were hills and hills of sand. At the bottom of a hill was the ocean. It was really windy, but so stinking cool. There was a deserted lifeguard stand from back when the resort was originally built and a building that looks like it would be an awesome place to have a wedding reception, but it has been closed up for years.
The tram driver, Luke, is our new best friend. He said that up until a couple months ago there was a 30 meter cliff and you had to walk a km or so to get down to the water. Someone had gone in and smoothed things out to provide better access to the surf. So glad they did. If anyone is looking for a job, Luke gets free lodging (on an island) and a $50,000 salary to drive a tram. I was considering applying…
And the seashells. We have found a few at other beaches we have been to, but since this one was so far off the beaten path, there were heaps of them. Elizabeth found a HUGE one. We could have spent all day there looking for shells.
As a side note, I love that Ty isn’t picky about the types of shells he picks up, or if they are missing bits, half broken. If he sees it, he picks it up, and he wants to take it home. All are beautiful through the eyes of a 3 year old. I hope he applies that approach to everything throughout his life.
Since we felt like Luke wasn’t really supposed to have given us a ride, we didn’t stay long. But he said that next time we come over to find him and he would take us to a spot where there are giant sand dunes that the kids can slide down. So fun!
We decided to head towards home as it was getting to be late afternoon. We had a nice relaxing trip back up river, got the Torrey’s dropped off at their house, and parked El Bandito at home.
We all took a quick shower and headed to the ramina for a quick and yummy Thai dinner. Both kids (and mom and dad) were beat. Early to bed for us all.
I apologize for not having any pictures to share today – left my phone on the boat. :(. Have a great week!
