SAHM.
To all of you stay-at-home-moms out there…bless your heart. Yesterday was really fun. Today was a little more challenging. Ty had a make-up swim lesson from when we were in New Zealand. I felt like a rock star mama taking both kids and not having any trouble managing on my own. I thought since I was so good I would push my luck and stop by the home store shopping mall. I picked up some sinking pool toys to help Ty practice going underwater. Then we walked over to the Pillow Store to buy inserts from some souvenir pillow cases I bought in New Zealand. Ty must have gotten a burst of energy from the air conditioner (it is hella hot here today) and decided the store was a playground. So we didn’t do any other shopping…

While Ty was eating lunch, Lily woke up hungry. I went upstairs to feed her and left a bit of Pepsi in my can on the table. Rookie mistake…

Fast forward to nap time 20 minutes later. Ty wanted to sleep in the downstairs guest bedroom “the fort bedroom”. It has French doors and a pocket door to an attached bathroom, which he thinks is pretty cool. He got to sleep in there with Jay one night when he was sick – close to a toilet. He picked out 3 super short books so I thought, great, he will be asleep in no time. And then he got crazy. Jumping on the bed, running around, speaking jibberish. And then Lily decided to throw a fit. I couldn’t get her calmed down, so I tried taking her upstairs to our dark closet. The entire house is pretty bright so if she is tired sometimes the darkness helps put her to sleep. I just about had her calmed down and crazy caffeine kid came running upstairs throwing binkies and toys and burp towels in the closet. Open the door. Close the door. Fake cry really loud. Open the door. You know, just trying to help…

I tried putting her on the floor in the toy room, which made her quiet and happy long enough for me to finish Ty’s books. Hug and a kiss and sweet dreams. 2 minutes later…”mom, I’m going toots.” And that, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, is the proof that he did drink my Pepsi. Little stinker…

I think he is finally asleep now. I haven’t heard any rustling around in that room for a bit. Hopefully lily will fall asleep soon. This mama needs a nap… :). I could not do this gig full time!

Sweet Dreams.
Ok, this makes it all worth it…

Mail!
We received our first Christmas card in the mail! It was so exciting to get real mail. Thank you Pisel’s! Ty put the big picture on the Christmas tree (haven’t wanted to take it down yet) and the little one in his favorite little box.

Hot.
Have I mentioned how hot it is? Wowza! The air conditioner can’t keep up. We are sitting in the house just sweating. We try to keep the house at 23* Celsius (73* Fahrenheit), but it has been stuck on 27 today (80). I think it was only around 87 outside, but it doesn’t feel like 87 at home. Must be because there is no ozone??? Tomorrow is supposed to be 93. We are trying to think of cool activities to entertain the kids. Don’t really want to be outside!

Rabbits.
The rabbits here are freakishly huge. I have only seen one, but if jay hadn’t said it was a rabbit I don’t think I would have believed him. Bandit would have been scared if these things. I am reading a book about Australia called “In a Sunburned Country” (written by a Drake alum) and the author provided some fun facts about the rabbits here. In the 1859 some dude brought 24 rabbits in from England so he could have something to shoot at. Those 24 rabbits had nothing better to do than make babies and eat the lush crops. There is no natural predator in Australia for rabbits. It was almost 25 years later (and over 2 million acres of land) before a solution was discovered. A virus was was spread among the rabbits killing 99.9% of the rabbit population. Unfortunately the 0.1% were immune to the virus and soon started breeding again, passing their immunity on to their offspring. There are now over 300 million rabbits taking over Australia. Unbelievable. Now I understand why Customs is so thorough with their search for plants and animals being brought into a country…
