Laundry.
One of the benefits of living in a place that has a hot sun year round is that they have serious laundry drying racks outside the laundry room. The downside is that people rarely have dryers. We use both. 🙂
Shopping.
Every Saturday morning Aldi’s has awesome deals and people flock to the store like Black Friday. They love their super saver Saturday deals! Jay got a sweet deal on a trampoline for Ty. We don’t have furniture for the playroom, so we filled it with a giant trampoline. We were tired of telling Ty to stop jumping on the couch. 🙂
Teeth.
Lily had a rough day at daycare on Friday. She didn’t eat much and slept heaps (Australian for tons). She was whiny and fussy, so she spent a lot of the day in someone’s arms. She was definitely not herself Friday night, and Saturday she started drooling. I checked her mouth thinking there is no way that she is already cutting teeth, but low and behold, her first tooth is making a grand appearance! I ran to the grocery store a little after 5:00 pm to pick up some orajel (my tube is in the air shipment – didn’t figure I would need it this early) and was not pleased to see that the stores and chemist (pharmacist) all closed at 5:00. She seems to be content in her swing, so Jay spent the night on the couch with her. Good thing he picked out a comfy couch!
Fun.
Saturday night we went over to Brian and Mindy’s house. Brian is a Deere expat and they have been here for about a year and a half. He has been SO helpful throughout our transition. I am sure this relocation would have been 100 times more difficult if he hadn’t been so awesome about sharing his knowledge. They have 3 kids, ages 7, 8, and 10 (2 girls and a boy in the middle). They are adorable kids and Ty had a blast. Since Ty’s toys are stuck in the air shipment, he was thrilled to have toys and kids to play with. The best part is that they live just down the road, so we were able to walk and it took us maybe 5 minutes to get there. They cooked us a delicious meal and shared lots of stories about their time here. It was a very enjoyable evening, even with Lily being unhappy most of the time.
Peaceful.
Sunday morning Lily woke around 4:00, hating the world and the person that invented teeth. I took her down and put her in her swing, which apparently is her little oasis. After a few minutes of fussing, she fell asleep. Since the sun comes up at 4:30 every morning here, I was wide awake. I folded all of the laundry, washed the dishes, made a yummy breakfast with fresh kiwi, then sat on the patio and drank my tea. It was so peaceful. There was a slight breeze, perfect temp, birds chirping, tide rising so the water was gently rolling inland. I think I was the only person awake in the neighborhood. This was a nice reminder of the paradise that we are living in. Happy way to start the day.
